Research & Development

Through our extensive research program to develop an operating protocol that optimizes growth and fish welfare, we invest in new knowledge and skills development, in collaboration with The University of Bergen.

Optimal conditions

Our land-based aquaculture technology offers new possibilities for the control and monitoring of water quality and biology. New opportunities often come with new challenges. Our goal is that the technology and expertise in our organization will provide optimal conditions for the fish we raise. Our pilot facility gives us the opportunity to learn about the interaction between technology and biology, as well as to optimize this interaction.

We have started an extensive research program to develop an operating protocol that provides optimal fish welfare and growth. To ensure a scientific approach, we collaborate with University of Bergen. Over several years, The University of Bergen has contributed to increasing knowledge about water quality and fish welfare in closed farming systems, and we will continue to build on this knowledge.

Together, we will generate new knowledge that we can implement directly in our operations. Through controlled studies in the laboratory, we get a clue as to which production parameters we should optimize in our pilot.

Water quality and increased flow rate

The collaboration with The University of Bergen has two focus areas: i) water quality and ii) training using increased flow rate, both with fish welfare and growth as measurement parameters. Our hypothesis is that our flow-through technology with water reuse provides top water quality and training conditions for our Fresh Island Salmon.

In addition to this research programme, we will be constantly open to new knowledge generated in the industry and by other actors, and we will have a high focus on driving internal competence development so that our organization has the professional tools needed to succeed.
