Bue Salmon has been allocated 14.99 MW of grid capacity for its Lutelandet development through a “conditional connection” agreement.
BackGrid connection has long been a central part of the development work at Lutelandet and now provides the foundation for continued progress in the project.
Bue began groundwork activities at Lutelandet in November, based on a calculated risk related to the outcome of the grid connection process.
– We chose to start the work with confidence that we would succeed in securing sufficient grid capacity to initiate land-based salmon production at Lutelandet, says CEO Knut Eikeland.
Bue has maintained close dialogue with BKK over time regarding the possibility of a “conditional connection,” and the agreement has now been formally signed.
– The collaboration with BKK has been very positive for Bue Salmon. This is particularly noteworthy at a time when many new Norwegian industrial projects are facing major challenges related to limited power grid capacity, says Eikeland.
– Through this agreement, we secure sufficient grid capacity for the first two construction phases at Lutelandet, making it possible to continue advancing the project toward full financing.

Through the operation of its pilot facility in Bulandet, Bue Salmon has built substantial technical and operational expertise. The experience gained from the pilot operation has been carried forward into the development and design of the solutions at Lutelandet.
In its assessment of Bue under the “conditional connection” scheme, BKK has among other factors emphasized the company’s documented operational experience and knowledge base.
– There is significant demand for grid capacity, and in many areas access to electricity is limited. That is why we actively work to find good solutions together with our customers. Conditional connection is an important tool for utilizing capacity more efficiently and enables more projects to get started sooner. Bue Salmon demonstrates a proactive and solution-oriented approach, and with this agreement they can gain access to power at Lutelandet far earlier than if they had waited for traditional grid reinforcements, says Energy Coordinator Ann-Mari L. Knudsen at BKK.

Lutelandet Industrial Park is well suited for land-based salmon farming, with an established industrial area, local renewable energy production from wind turbines, and highly favorable natural conditions for aquaculture.
For Bue, the agreement with BKK means that the work of developing local value creation based on the company’s 50,000-tonne license and the natural advantages of Lutelandet can now continue at full strength.
